Marketing News 10 – Metaverse money, Facebook news blackout, password free security, pay for Google’s Minions.

Melanie Farmer and myself talking about the marketing news again.

This week it is the huge sums of money being invested in virtual real estate in the Metaverse, facebook bribing the Australian government with a news blackout, password free security and pay rises for Google staff that have caught our attention.

8:18 What’s caught your attention in the marketing news world?

30:57 Facebook news blackout bribery.

48:17 Password free security

52:09 Pay rises for Google’s minions Martin Henley So what’s caught your attention in the Marketing News World?

Melanie Farmer

Yes. So I I am interested in the metaverse just in what is happening in real estate within the metaverse with buying property and houses and such, right. Trying to imagine what that is actually going to look like for advertisers and so on. Trying to manage and sell ones and zeros to your point. What was the actual trigger? Just the amount. Investors paying millions into Metaverse land in the last few months. So this is an article from the fourth of March this year. It’s got its own sort of currency and all of those things, but this idea that it’s going to really blow up this year. I wonder Is that true, or are we all fed up with that world of virtual or do we want to start to get back to nature? I reckon the latter is more likely that we, if we look back to previous pandemics, always we’ve ended up leaving the house and not coming back. But you know, once we figured out it’s safe to leave.

Martin Henley

Yes.

Melanie Farmer

So I don’t know that it’s going to be as big as that but I’m interested in the millions going into investing in real estate inthat world.

Melanie Farmer

Yes. Cool. Okay, so the metaverse investment in the metaverse, that’s one.

Melanie Farmer

That is it. That’s how.

Melanie Farmer

You came up with one story. Okay, I’ve got it. I’ve got three. So in what order? You know, I like a conspiracy. And you are an Australian in Australia so I’ve got a story about – whistleblowers claim Facebook’s chaotic Australian news ban was a negotiating tactic. This has been reported by The Verge. I’d never heard of this but apparently there was a day, last year, or the year before when Facebook just refused to show any actual news out of Australia and so that’s about that.

Martin Henley

Another story that I’ve got is Apple, Google and Microsoft are committed to expanding support for FIDO standard to accelerate availability of passwordless sign ins.

Melanie Farmer

Yeah.

Melanie Farmer

Okay. So this is a security thing, these three businesses coming together to talk about security. Then the last one I’ve got is Google raising, pay revamping employee reviews documents show? So we’ve spoken about Google not being the nicest place to work on these segments before and it seems like they are doing something about it. So those are my three stories. So we’ve got four. Did you have a headline to go with your investment in the metaverse story?

Melanie Farmer

Expect over 1 billion in sales. Probably an asset Metaverse land purchases in 2022. Not I mean, I will say this Twitter’s worth more isn’t it? But a billion isn’t to be sneezed that for real estate in the meta land.

Martin Henley

Okay, February the fourth I’ve got. Okay, so let’s see if I can do this. Yes, I can do that. And then that. And then we are looking at the thing. We will allow this. So Metaverse Real Estate Sales expected to reach $1 billion this year. Real estate sales in the metaverse are expected to reach a billion dollars this year according to a Metaverse analytics firm. Companies expect real estate sales on four major Metaverse platforms, which surpassed 500 million last year to double this year. Company added that real estate sales on four major Metaverse, platforms Sandbox, Decentraland, Crypto Voxels and Somnium. Raise 500 million. Yeah, so.

Melanie Farmer

I love this company, the second one.

Martin Henley

The second one Decentraland

Melanie Farmer

Decentraland I love that name. I think it’s just hilarious as in decentralising. So I feel like the intent behind all of this is that everyone can live in a palace. It astounds me really that the value placed on on something that technically doesn’t exist. So I do wonder if there’s some status thing around it, because I think it was Snoop Dogg who, who did bought some large chunk of Metaverse land. Yeah. And certainly there’s a lot of excitement around it and I think this is certainly, if it is, to my mind supposed to be some kind of utopia. What does it mean for for marketing advertising in that world? Is it a place where you would incite people to go and actually buy your product in the real world? Could you actually sell your products?
